Tipton located at the heart of Cedar County about 35 miles East of Cedar Rapids, 35 miles west of the Quad Cities, 9 miles South of Highway 30, and 9 miles North of Interstate 80 and is the County Seat of Cedar County.

Tipton is a growing community with a population of about 3,160 people. The town is a mixture of older homes, some of which are well preserved Victorians and newer homes. There are several new building developments opening up in the Tipton area.

Travel

Within 45 miles you will find two regional airports, one in the Quad Cities and one in Cedar Rapids. Tipton’s own municipal airport has a 3,000 foot lighted runway.

Medical

Two medical clinics, chiropractic, dental and physical therapy are available to Tipton’s residence. The community has a volunteer Ambulance Service with Life Flight available to them. Specialty care is provided by five area hospitals located within 45 miles.

Recreation

A new Aquatic Center is currently being constructed in the City Park. This will have an outside lazy day river, large outside zero entry pool and an Olympic size indoor pool. The City Park also has an all weather track, ball diamonds, and Frisbee golf, this and the area golf courses provide additional recreation facilities for all ages. The City of Tipton has a Recreation program that includes children of all ages including adults. Thirty miles to the Coralville Reservoir and 45 minutes to the Mississippi River allow for all types of water sports and camping.

Schools

Tipton Community Schools reflect Iowa’s commitment to educational excellence. Iowa’s ACT scores are above the national average, and Tipton’s ACT scores exceed the Iowa average. The Elementary and the newly constructed Middle school house grades K-8, the High School houses grades 9-12. Two preschools, a headstart program and Sycamore Learning Center are the starting points of our younger children. There are four technical/community colleges and seven colleges/universities within 45 minutes of Tipton. The Kirkwood Community College satellite site in Tipton supports the town’s dedication to education.

Library

The Tipton Public Library is the home to 18 Grant Wood Lithographs. The library has been in Tipton since 1903 and continues to have the most up to date materials for all ages.
